Mujjo - Leather Touchscreen Gloves (2015)

Mujjo – Leather Touchscreen Gloves (2015)

Price: $89.00

Mujjo’s Leather Touchscreen Gloves are exquisite. With a clear eye for design, Mujjo takes a classic glove and adds a modern edge.  Simplicity and economy of design at this level takes a lot of thought and work.

These gloves work flawlessly.  When done right, touchscreen compatible leather is the most conductive material for ensuring accuracy and precision.  Mujjo does it right.  Made of Ethiopian lambskin infused with conductive nano particles, the leather functions independently from the user’s own skin, enabling them to work exceptionally well with any touchscreen phone, tablet, or other device.

As the entire glove, including all five fingers, is conductive, the wearer can use any part to interact with their screen.  Prefer knuckling your texts? no problem.  Like to use the middle of your thumb to swipe? These are the gloves for you.  Moreover, since all five fingers (and the whole glove) are conductive, any thee-, four-, or five-finger screen gesture is easy to perform.

As with every pair of gloves we’ve tried from Mujjo, these are painstakingly crafted with high-end materials and keen eye toward design and functionality. The outside of the gloves are made of a conductive nano particle infused pliable Ethiopian lambskin that is held together with strong, well hidden stitching.  The leather is also treated to be wind and waterproof. Inside, the cashmere lining will pill after a little bit of wear, but seemed sturdy and securely affixed to the inside of the glove.

A note on sizing – it’s imperative that potential customers use Mujjo’s sizing chart in order to ensure a proper fit.  Unlike knit gloves that will automatically stretch to accommodate various hand sizes, these will not to the same degree and getting the wrong size is unforgiving.  If you are unable to try them on first, then make sure you print out the chart (linked to above and also on their website) and take the time to choose the right size.  It should also be noted that there will be a little bit of stretch over time.  The gloves I have felt a little bit tight when I first tried them on, but within a couple of days of wearing them they stretched just enough to accommodate my hands perfectly.

Warmth and Dexterity

As noted, these gloves are treated in order to be water and windproof, and while they are not the gloves for backcountry splitboarding, they were never intended to be.  Instead, they are an elegant pair of leather gloves with a warm cashmere lining meant for the city or country dweller to undertake everyday activities (and look good doing so).  As they are made from soft, pliable leather, the gloves are very easy to move in and comfortable to wear.

If you are passionate about design, you will love these gloves.

Mujjo clearly focuses on clean, elegant design that is at once beautiful and functional. While the fingers and hand will be familiar to anyone whose ever owned a pair of leather gloves, the angled cut cuffs are a brilliant addition that invoke some of the vintage motorcycle glove gauntlets. Adding functionality to form, the cuffs also act as a closure that secure with snaps that are magnetized to simplify and aid in securing them. Subtly embossed in understated san sarif print along the bottom of the cuff is the company’s logo.

The attention to design does not, however, stop at the product itself.  Indeed, the packaging for the gloves was itself meticulously constructed such that opening it felt like a treat.  This model, as with Mujjo’s leather crochet touchscreen gloves, come in handsome, cleanly designed black boxes with black logo lettering and matching black logo wrapping paper inside.  Even the tags were well done.  Instead of having a cheap piece of plastic to attach them, Mujjo opted for an elegant, bespoke black safety pin, which made detaching the tags easier with less risk of tear.  It’s this type of attention – down to even these smallest of details – that makes Mujjo such an exceptional company.

Overall Value and Conclusion

TheMujjo’s Leather Touchscreen Gloves are amongst the nicest leather dress gloves we’ve tried.  Having reduced their price to below $100, these gloves are starting to creep toward exceptional and affordable.  That said, at around $89.00 these are worth every penny.

It is HIGHLY advisable to download and print out the sizing chart in order to determine the right fit.  Unlike knit gloves which have a fair amount of room to expand or contract, leather gloves need to fit your hands right off the bat.  You can download that chart at the Mujjo website here.

About Mujjo

Mujjo is a Dutch designer label for mobile accessories. Founded in 2010 by Remy, Robin and Tom, Mujjo began by creating hand-stitched winter touchscreen gloves.  Since the success of their gloves, Mujjo branched out in 2012 to designing  sleeves for Apple devices that combine wool felt and high quality leather. The brand has grown fast, and continues to evolve, but Mujjo keeps the same passion for creating beautiful designs.  I had the pleasure of corresponding with both Tom and Remy and was impressed with their candor and enthusiasm.  These are some great people who make some great products.
