Editor’s Note: Agloves closed shop in 2013 after a brief, but incredibly successful run. While this is a major loss for the touchscreen glove industry, it means that the stock of gloves remaining are being sold at a steep discount (we’ve seen them as low as $3.00 a pair, which is a massive bargain).

The Agloves Original is a straightforward, elegant glove that conducts well and is relatively affordable.  Of the five models now available from Agloves, these offer the best overall value.

Conductivity

The conductivity of these gloves is very good. As with all of Agloves’ models, the entire glove has conductive material (in this case silver nylon) interwoven with the non-conductive elements.  This means that every finger (as well as the entire rest of the glove) has touchscreen capability, so they are just as at home thumb texting on a smart phone as they are typing with all ten fingers on a virtual tablet keyboard.

As Agloves explained to me, the company opted for the whole-glove approach because the bio-electricity of the human body transfers more effectively if larger portion of the hand is touching conductive fibers.  While I have never had issues due to the conductive thread only being placed in the fingertips, this feature certainly does not detract from functionality.

Construction

In their Original gloves, Agloves employs a combination of polyester, nylon, spandex, acrylic, and silver nylon throughout the entire glove. For the most part, the webbing between fingers and thumb is strong, and the connections at the fingertips are robust and smooth.  Indeed, the latter seemed better made than other models I’d tried, though that could simply lie on the particular pair I have.  The long, doubled back cuffs are warm and offer excellent protection against the cold when sleeves alone won’t do the job.

One small issue I have had across the board with Agloves is their sizing.  Typically, I wear a medium or large depending on the manufacturer, but with Agloves, the M/L were a bit tight on my hands, while the XL were a little big.  While this will not affect every user, the size difference between the two is substantial and a size Large would be a  great addition for people with my sized hands.

Agloves offers a 90-day return policy, so if you find you don’t like them for some reason you can always send them back without any hassle.

Warmth  and Dexterity

These gloves are relatively warm knit gloves and would be suitable for moderately cold days down to about 32 F/0 C.  Below freezing, however, they would probably not suffice for any extended period of time.  That said, since the gloves are not bulky and cumbersome, they offer the user a relatively wide range of motion and could even double as liners.

Design

The design of these knit gloves is very simple and straightforward.

Normally I would say that the design could be improved by including some form of traction grip on the palm and fingers, however, Agloves has addressed this issue with their Touch Grip models, so users seeking a glove that more easily holds onto their touchscreen devices can choose that excellent, albeit substantially more expensive, option.  In fact, it’s hard to think of much that can be improved on with regard to the either the aesthetic or functional design of these gloves.

Perhaps one area where Agloves might benefit is by offering a range of colors or patterns.  While this is certainly not a design flaw, it could be hugely successful in a world of typically darker toned winter gloves.

Overall Value and Conclusion

The Agloves Original are a well made, simple, but sophisticated pair of knit gloves.  They work as you would expect them to and, provided you don’t fall between sizes like me, they are form-fitting and reasonably priced at $19.99.

About Agloves

Agloves was founded in 2010 and has been growing exponentially, both in terms of the gloves they offer and where they are sold.  They take a smart approach that not all new products need to be elaborate – simple designs that offer simple, good solutions are also important. At present, Agloves are focused on expanding and hope to improve their glove design by filing for a few more patents in the area of durability.  I reached out to the company and was impressed with the quick and thorough responses I received from one of the co-founders, Jean Spencer.
